If you intend to enrol Jobkeeper subsidy stimulus package being rolled out by the government now, you must be online for all your BAS and STP dealings with the ATO.

We have discovered, through these JobKeeker and Cash Boost processes, that some  churches and organisations are still lodging their BASs manually.
If, for some reason, you are not already submitting your BAS online from your Xero accounting system, this is the perfect opportunity to set it up and start.

Follow these simple steps, outlined in one of previous blogs, on “how to lodge your BAS directly from Xero”.
Here is the link: https://www.benkorp.com/lodge-your-bas-directly-from-xero/
JobKeeper subsidy details and enrolments will need to be completed using the processes in your Xero system – No Paper will be allowed!!

It is reasonably simple to setup this link with the ATO in Xero and you will see that it makes submitting your BAS, employee payroll data and STP much easier.

Good news about the ATO
Firstly note, that our experience in dealing with the ATO is easy these days. The staff are friendly and very helpful. They realise this is very new for many people and they want this to work as much as we all do.

Background & terminology
There are 2 aspects to connecting with the ATO: myGovID and RAM.
RAM is an authorisation service that allows you to act on behalf of a business online when linked with your myGovID. You’ll use your myGovID to log into RAM.

This is the basic outline for accessing online services with myGovID and RAM:

    • To access the ATO’s online services on behalf of your organisation you’ll need to use: myGovIDExternal Link
      – an app you download to your smart device which lets you prove who you are online. It is different to a myGov account.
    • Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM)External Link
      – an authorisation service that allows you to act on behalf of your organisation online when linked with your myGovID. You’ll use your myGovID to log into RAM.

Together, myGovID and RAM provide simple, secure and flexible access to our online services.

Here are steps to follow:

    1. Before doing anything more: Make sure you identify who the ATO approved contact person is for your church. People who are approved to contact the ATO about their organisation or church must be recognised contact people with the ATO
    2. People who are approved to contact the ATO about their organisation or church must be recognised contact people with the ATO
    3. One recognised Contact person will need to get access to the Business Portal for their church or organisation. This will be your administrator person with the ATO connection for your church/organisation.
    4. To do this they will need to Set up “MyGovID”  on a smartphone with ID requirements to be standard (not basic). You may need to scan some ID docs to boost the level to standard. NOTE: this is different to your personal MyGOV access!

      • For help at the ATO call 132 866.
      • Staff at the ATO will not do any of this for you, although they may instruct you with ‘how you can do it’
    5. RAM Relationship Authorisation Manager – will also need to be connected.

Too difficult?
